SNES Chip Labels Piken (FDwR_at_hotmail) 2004-04-04 http://oregonstate.edu/~robinsfr/snes.html http://members.tripod.com/FDwR/snes.html I've wanted to take apart my SNES and its games ever since I bought it, and I finally got the chance to. I've compiled a list of chips and labels found inside the main console and a few selected games, and I don't know if it benefits anybody, but in case it does... You need a special screwdriver bit to turn the security screws. Although they are impossible to find in electronics stores (I've tried), they are easy to find and order online. The cartridges use a slightly smaller bit than the console. Notations: Each named chip or component will be followed by several lines of text found on it. Line breaks and letter case are preserved. There may be typing errors and are very likely some mixups between zeroes and o's, since they are difficult to distinguish. Any symbols that can not be represented in text form have been substituted with either their manufacturer name or a description of the unrecognized symbol between <...>. Abbreviations: SHVC - do not know, but you see it a LOT CPU - central processing unit PPU - picture processing unit DSP - digital signal processor ROM - read only memory WRAM - writable random access memory SRAM - static random access memory (in cartridges) IC - integrated circuit (they usually use 'U' instead) ==== SNES ==== Main Board: (c) 1990 Nintendo SHVC-CPU-01 U1: (main CPU) Nintendo S-CPU A 5A22-02 2HB 9B U2: (picture processing unit) Nintendo S-PPU1 5C77-01 2JV 95 U3: (secondary picture processing unit, I assume for Mode 7) Nintendo S-PPU2 B 5C78-03 2HV 85 U4: SONY JAPAN CXK58257AM-12L 221J07YY U5: SONY JAPAN CXK58257AM-12L 221J07YY U6: Nintendo S-WRAM 9239 OV S U7: BA6592F 220 182 U8: F411 (c)1990 Nintendo 9141 V U9: 74HCU04 229DU U10: 233J LM358 U11: T529D 297 U12: 17805 2H4 ((*)) SW JAPAN Sound Module: (the SPC700 black box) SHVC-SOUND (c)1990 Nintendo Co.,Ltd.
